Grayson Christian School’s mission is to partner with Christian parents in the education of their children in order to raise up generations of students who embrace Biblical truth, strive for academic excellence, demonstrate discipline, and exhibit leadership and influence in their homes, churches, and communities.
Doctrinal Statement
We believe certain truths that are basic to Christian faith in keeping with the Word of God. We believe in:
- The Holy Scriptures as originally given by God, divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy, and the only supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2Timothy 3:16)
- One God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (1 Timothy 1:17)
- Our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, His virgin birth, His sinless human life, His divine miracles, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, His mediatorial work, and His personal return in power and glory. (Heb 1: 1-3)
- The salvation of lost and sinful man through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, apart from works, and regeneration of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 16:31)
- The Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a holy life to witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 14: 15-17)
- The resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of Life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (1 Corinthians 15)
History
Grayson Christian
School began classes in September of 1973. Grades Kindergarten through Senior
High were available to the first year students. Rev. Don Elmore was
the Pastor and Weldon Hutson was the Principal. The gymnasium and cafeteria
with classrooms was built for the students. The first graduating class of
1974 had only one Senior however, the next graduating class doubled with two.
During the crucial first and second years, Bro. Weldon Hutson did an outstanding
job as Principal getting GCS off to a good start.
In 1976 John Fletcher
joined Rev. Elmore as Principal. This graduating class had three seniors.
Bro. Fletcher remained as the Principal through the 1977 school year which
had a graduating class of four.
Charles Hamilton
filled in as Principal and was the Supervisor of the High School in 1978.
There were four seniors again this year. During these years, the students
grew in number and spiritually as well.
Beginning in September
1979 Kenneth Pinkerton joined the Staff as Principal and remained with us
until May of 1981. The classes of 1979 through 1981 each had four graduating
seniors. It was also in December of 1979 when Rev. Wilbur Vaughan served as
Interim Pastor until February 1980 when the church called Rev. Tommy L. Stone
as Pastor. His first Sunday to preach was March 2, 1980.
From September 1982
until this present time, Charles Hamilton has served as Principal of GCS.
One of the 1983 graduates, Rhonda Stine (Dick), now teaches in our school.
In 1984 GCS graduated its largest class yet of six seniors.
Again, in 1987 the
graduating class surpassed any previous records by graduating seven seniors
and GCS continued to grow. Rev. Stone served as pastor until 1992 and at that
time answered the call of Evangelism. Two of our seven graduates from the
1992 senior class are now teachers at our school, Greg Rostyne and Darla Hamilton
(Rostyne).
In November of 1992,
our pastor, Dr. Eddy Johnson came to Grayson Bible Baptist Church. His leadership,
godly example and spiritual guidance has held GCS committed to the education
and spiritual growth of our next generation.
In the year 2000,
Dr. Johnson and the members of Grayson Bible Baptist Church began a new building
project to relocate from 600 E. Cherry St. to 4400 Hwy 82 E, in Sherman. The
church held their first service at the new property on Sunday, February 29,
2004.
In September of 2005,
groundwork began for our new Grayson Christian School location also at 4400
Hwy 82.
In November of 2010, we completed our school campus with the opening of our Family Life Center which includes a gymnasium with cafeteria and excercise facilties.
